Located in the southern part of
the Balkan Peninsula, enriched by the exceptional beauty of the few
natural and artificial lakes, high mountains and 38 thermal mineral
springs concentrated in 8 health resorts, as well as, the modern
communication links (at a distance of only a few hours by plane from
all the European centres), the Republic of Macedonia offers abundant
and versatile tourist opportunities.
The attractiveness of Macedonia
as a tourist destination is supplemented by the enormous cultural
historical wealth, from the ancient history and up to the present
date, which is particularly attractive for foreign tourists. Apart
from the natural wealth, the tourist potential of Macedonia
includes over 75,000 beds in all types of accommodation capacities.
About 14,000 of these are high quality hotel capacities which meet
the standards of the international tourist demand. The major part of
the accommodation capacities are located in the tourist places along
the lakes, which account for more than 59,000 beds, then in Skopje
with about 5,000 beds, and a considerable number in the health
resorts and the mountainous places.
